This release features a great version of Instinction redone by Trevor Horn. Mr Horn has given the track a shiny & glossy makeover with a huge ambience. It sounds joyous, brash & bold, quite in line with some of his other productions from the same year (ABC's Poison Arrow to name just one). Instinction was originally included on the Diamond album where it sounds flat, stale and uninspired - I would never have imagined it could have been turned into something this good by anyone! The excellent remixed version of Chant No.1 on the B-side of this release was originally first included on a limited 4x12" box set release of the Diamond LP. This remix still sounds fresh to this day - it wisely retains the tight groove from the original version and adds some really tasty use of dub effects and horn riffs panned from speaker to speaker that are not overdone. The acoustic-tinged ballad Gently on the B-side was never included on any studio album. It is an understated sad & quiet song for a Spandau release.
