  • This is pretty bad. Datach'i, instead of focusing more on his thumping, driving bass drum patterns that were in Mmale and Ffemale, Datach'i instead screws around with the Amen break with only moderate success and exposes his inability to write good melodies and harmonies. Most of the songs are self-indulgent and altogether too fast, making for a tedious and unenjoyable listen. Others are too slow or devoid of percussion at all - this wouldn't be so bad if Datach'i could generate some better atmospheres. The second thing that pisses me off about this album is it exemplifies the kind if crap that Sublight churns out. Everything from the skimpy packaging to the lack of effort on some songs is very disappointing. In the CD version, the ninth track is completely omitted on the tracklisting on the back of the CD. Are they trying any more? All the bad parts aside, there are some enjoyable moments on this album, like when Datach'i goes back to the sound he had on Mmale and Ffemale. It's a good thing Datach'i redeemed himself after this poor release with Black Trees. I'll take that over The Elements any day.
